Delhi Grill is a little belter | Metro News
food drinks
Restaurant review: Delhi Grill – recently opened up in London’s Chapel Market – is loved by the owners’ mother and, now, Marina O’Loughlin.
Then there’s the roti stall, where three quid buys a fresh, fluffy bread wrap stuffed with excellent fillings.
But now the same owners also run the restaurant space behind it, rechristened Delhi Grill.
Anyone who thinks Delhi Grill, with its azure walls, Indian newspapers as wallcoverings and Bollywood-blasting telly, is on the shonky side should see the originals.
Delhi Grill calls itself an ‘Indian canteen’ so I feel like a fraud ordering a £14 bottle of Pinot Grigio.

The Timberyard Deptford will be made up of six interconnecting new neighbourhoods, cleverly designed to blend and flow into the surrounding area and new green spaces.

M. Manze Pie and Mash Shop in Islington Is Closing - Eater London
food location
M. Manze, the traditional Cockney pie and mash shop on Islington’s Chapel Market, will close by Christmas.
After 106 years of trading, Tim Nicholls, the owner, has told the Islington Gazette that “high business rates” and rent hikes in the area are forcing their closure.
Manze is among the oldest of London’s traditional pie and mash shops, having first opened in 1911.
The Chairman of the Chapel Market Traders Association (which represents the daily market), David Twydell, described Manze’s planned closure as a “nail in the coffin” of Angel Islington’s historic shopping street.
Twydell, who has run a fruit and veg stall on the market for 40 years is weary of the future of the area: “The rate hikes are hitting the small businesses while the big boys can survive...The worry is, it’ll become just another street of fast food joints and Costa coffee shops,” he said.
Pie 'n' mash rival told porkies about Manze's | London Evening ...

ES News Email London's oldest pie and mash shop today won an advertising battle after a rival made misleading claims online.
Bosses at M Manze, whose Islington shop was a regular haunt for stars including David Beckham and Danny Baker, complained to the Advertising Standards Authority.
The boasts also included the claim they had been producing pies longer than M Manze, known as Manze's.
But the ASA banned the ad from appearing on the Pie '*' Mash website again, saying it had breached a string of guidelines and had misled customers, denigrated M. Manze, and failed to substantiate its claims.
M Manze has a string of shops and its Tower Bridge shop is London's oldest having opened in 1902.
Peckham Refreshment Rooms: restaurant review | Life and style ...
food
Meal for two, with wine £70 If you approach this restaurant from the west you might dismiss it as merely a part of the gentrified corner of Peckham through which you pass to get there.
However, carry on west from the door of the Peckham Refreshment Rooms – named after a local hostelry, now long gone – and you quickly realise you aren't in some gussied-up version of Peckham but in the real thing.
From the specials there is a fiercely heated cast-iron bowl, bubbling with butter and garlic and spring onions and three fat king prawns.
We add a good sprinkle of salt, eat the prawns, suck their heads and then mop furiously with sourdough bread.
And that is all you need to know, save that it will now be even busier and I will be blamed, which is unfair – it's not my fault the place I went for dinner in Peckham one Friday evening is so good.
14 Places For Perfect Pies | London's Best Pie And Mash Shops
food
First opened in 1952, the site of Greenwich’s pie and mash shop was bought out by Gourmet Burger Kitchen around ten years ago.
Yet after a few years conquering the wholesale market, a shiny new shop opened in 2012 and Goddards is once again one of London’s most popular pie shops, often filled with tourists.
The mash and liquor are practically perfect, though the pies are generally dry with a pastry base that’s too dense.
There’s also a huge range of fillings including steak and ale and lamb and rosemary, now devastatingly more popular than traditional minced beef.
£4.80 for pie, mash and liquor with a cup of tea.
